Tritonus is considered one of the leading choirs in Denmark,
with a highly varied repertoire that reaches from great,
classical works to rhythmical music
and works written especially for the choir.

Tritonus
has co-operated with many important Danish musicians and
singers, along with orchestras as the DR Big Band and members of
the Royal Danish Chapel.
Tritonus
has existed since 1971 and is situated at the School of
Education, Emdrup, Copenhagen. The choir was founded by John Høybye
who was leading the ensemble for 35 years. Lise Christensen
Bjerno took up the job as permanent conductor for Tritonus at
the turn of the year 2009.
As
pioneer in rhythmical choir singing since the 70’s Tritonus
has worked with New Danish Dancing Theatre, leading visual
artists and writers with a wish for a close co-operation between
different forms of art. Tritonus challenges the traditional
choir formation; new thinking and experimentation are essential
sides of Tritonus.
The
choir has given concerts all over Europe and in Israel, China,
Japan, USA and Brazil. We have participated with great joy in a
number of projects in Scandinavian music and have regularly
performed in Scandinavian countries among these the Faeroe
Islands frequently.
Tritonus
has participated in European choir competitions with excellent
results. At the international choir competition in Maasmechelen
in Belgium in 1993, Tritonus was awarded Second Prize among 60
choirs from all over Europe. In 1995 Tritonus was invited to
participate along with 63 other choirs (from among more than 200
applicants) in the distinguished choir competition in Budapest -
The 5th International Choir Competition - and was awarded First
Prize.
Tritonus is the choir on the soundtrack of the Danish
versions of famous Disney films Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin,
Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame etc.
In 1999, Tritonus was invited to participate in the
Duke Ellington Centennial Festival where Ellington's Sacred
Concert was performed in The Union Temple Baptist Church,
Washington DC and in Saint Peter's Church, Manhattan, New York
City, with Jesper Thilo as soloist.
In 2006 Tritonus were invited to Brazil by
"Instituto Curitiba de Arte e Cultura" in Curitiba, to
give the first performance of John
Høybyes
tribute to famous Danish poet and writer of fairy-tales Hans
Christian Andersen, "The Little Mermaid", a suite of
songs composed and arranged by John Høybye with libretto of
Edward Broadbridge.
2008 included an exciting cooperation with world-famous
percussionist, drummer, bandleader and composer Marilyn Mazur:
the opening performance at the World Championship in Uni
Cycling!
In 2009 begins a co-operation with another unique
Danish composer – the organ player Jette Mogensen, who’s
Mass we are giving its first performance: 5 movements for choir,
soloists and her own unique instrument, the claviorganum.
The Christmas 2009, offers ’A Ceremony of Carols’
by Benjamin Britten and a first performance of John Høybye’s
revised Christmas oratorio ‘Gabriel & Maria’ for mixed
choir, soloists, reciter, rhythmical group and organ.
Tritonus
gives 10-12 concerts annually in Denmark and abroad.
We
are looking forward to new exiting challenges, journeys and
recordings in the second decade of the new millennium.
